Archive | January 2012

Usually on the first of  January I receive a word that sets the course for the year. But this year I’ve struggled with hearing a word for 2012.  It has been very discouraging and the month is nearly over! Until today.

Today I heard so simply. The Hebrew word, Radaph, means to follow after or attend closely upon. This year I will  devotedly seek after the things God has for me   This word  has another meaning as well.  It can mean to chase away or put to flight. So this year I will remove, with the same intensity, that which should no longer be in my life.

My One Word for 2012 is:

Pursue God’s will for all of my life.

Pursue the dreams He has placed inside me.

Pursue the desires of my heart He has appointed for me.

Pursue removing sin in my life.

Pursue the relationships he brings into my life.

Pursue the abandonment of knowing Him.

Pursue the beauty of His creation.

So David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”     I Samuel 30:8

Sunday’s Word – 22Jan12

I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.  Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him  and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!   Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!  Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints,  for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.  Psalms 34:4-10

Rocky Waters

Ocean and rocks near Ho'okipa Beach - Northern...

It has been all over the news. Costa Concordia, the cruise ship, set sail for a seven-day Mediterranean Cruise ran aground on the island of Giglio, Italy. Most passengers have made it safely to the shore, some are still missing. Sadly, there have been people who have perished at sea. The ship’s Captain has been arrested for leaving the ship before all aboard were safely off. A radio commentator said the Captain stated the rocks were not where they were supposed to be.

A statement like that is totally foolish! As an experience Captain, who has been in the same waters many times, he would have known exactly the course to take. In life, it is so easy to get on aboard with someone or something that will lead us into rocky waters. Maybe it is a relationship, or career choice or choosing our will over God’s. We can all get into those rocky waters, where our lives can be in peril from decisions we make.  Before we know it our world is tipped on its side.

Each day, and more like each moment, we have to choose  the direction we will go.  However, there is one true Captain we can trust in…  Jesus.  He is the one and only true Constant. When we follow Him, we can remain on course and our foundation will be sure.  He not only knows what the rocky seas hold, He is the Rock we can build our faith on.

For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words [in order to heed their- teaching] and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a rock. Luke 6:47-48

Sunday’s Word – 15Jan12

Your way [in delivering Your people] was through the sea, and Your paths through the great waters, yet Your footsteps were not traceable, but were obliterated.   Psalms 77:19 (Amp)

Sunday’s Word

The LORD upholds all who fall,  and raises up all who  are bowed down. The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.

Psalms 145: 14-19

Time for Everything

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:  a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;  a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;  a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;  a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;  a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;  a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Eccl 3: 1-8
